PT upgrade... East 7th Street incident... James investigation... White House overreaching... More UMDNJ...

*
PLAINFIELD_________________________________________________________________________________

Plainfield Today: "PT taking advantage of tech improvements over holidays"

NOTE: A reader sent PT an email in the middle of the night about an incident in the 1400 block of East 7th Street a little past midnight. The reader estimates upward of 50 people were involved in a noisy altercation which spilled out of a house near Terrill Road on the normally quiet block. Within 5 minutes, 2 prowl cars arrived -- and evidently radioed for assistance, as the reader reports a total of SEVEN police vehicles were ultimately at the scene. The crowd gradually dispersed once the police arrived in force, and the reader reports the incident ended without any arrests in about ten minutes or so from the cops' arrival. 'A Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!'

Crime: "Burglary arrest" -- This is only the 2nd time PT has noticed a Plainfield item in the 'Police Blotter' section since the Courier began it; it appears the items are posted by the local police departments.
Duer Street/Madison Avenue Bridge: "Contract awarded for bridge project"
Knucklehead Drivers?: "Web site welcomes motorist reports of bad driving" -- The PlateWire site is here.
Rex Bedding Fire: "Authorities searching for causes of 3 major fires"

WHITE HOUSE OVERREACHING DETAILED______________________________________________________

A tale of White House fear and overreaching.

After the White House intervened in the normal prepublication review by the CIA to ascertain whether classified information was being disclosed, the following New York Times Op-Ed was redacted, prohibiting the mention of certain items.

The CIA told the writers that -- on its own -- the agency had concluded there was NO breach of classified information, but that the wishes of the White House were being followed.

The New York Times published the redacted Op-Ed yesterday, along with an explanation by the writers, former NSA and Foreign Service professionals, of what had taken place.

IN ADDITION, the Times published links to each and every redacted item, showing that the material is easily publicly available and not classified.

You can see for yourself what the White House was so interested in the public NOT reading.

"What We Wanted to Tell You About Iran" (and the "Redacted Version of Original Op-Ed")
